Ed ran a hand through his hair as he looked down the road. The last time he left home, the air was warmer and the grass was greener, but he couldn’t be more excited to be back.

He was ready to greet Granny and Den and – of course – he was crazy nervous about seeing Winry again. The last time they spoke in person, he’d made a comment about them setting up a…date. Now that he was home, they’d have to talk about it again. A date.

After all the crazy shit he’d done in his life, how was this one of the hardest things? Al would be making fun of him so badly if he was here.

Ed continued his trek down the long path to Granny’s house, trying not to think about how bad he was probably going to be at dating and what if he ruined things with Winry because of it and – oh – then he started wondering how Al and Mei were faring over in Xing and were they dating officially yet or was that still up in the air? Also –

His thoughts were cut off by the door swinging open just as he was reaching for it. Winry yelled his name excitedly and jumped out, wrapping her arms around his neck.

And then, just briefly – very, very briefly – he felt her lips brush against his own. His brain melted at the realization.

Winry squeezed him tighter before letting go and stepping back with a blush on her cheeks. “Sorry, I’ve been thinking about doing that for weeks.” She laughed when she saw his face. “I guess I should’ve given you some warning, huh?”
