This little drabble was inspired by a real life situation I saw today. I wanted to write it down before I start planning the next chapter of the ice skating au. I hope you guys enjoy.

An elderly
couple was spending a peaceful evening in their livingroom. Their favorite
pastime was watching the events of the town from their window and giving their
snarky comments when they saw something happening. That day
had been pretty boring so far, but now they saw a young couple approaching
the market, holding hands and talking casually. That wouldn’t have drawn the elderly couple’s attention had they not recognized the bypassers, but they did.
The girl was Ms. Rockbell, a mechanic who built Amestris’ best automail (or at least that was what the people of Resembool thought), and the boy was none other than
the Elric runt, the older Elric brother. The elderly woman had heard something about Edward being involved in the events of the “Promised Day”, or whatever people called it,
but she still didn’t like him. She hadn’t forgotten how Ed had once, years ago, scared their beloved cat with his yelling so badly that it never came back home again. And one time he had stolen apples from her tree, for an apple pie, he had claimed.
“Look at
them. I always hoped she’d pick the younger brother, who is much better-mannered,
but maybe she has a bad taste,” the woman said.
“Darling,
don’t be so rude. You aren’t always so perfect either, you know,” the elderly man
commented and hushed his wife to keep quiet because he couldn’t hear what the
youngsters were talking about.
“Do we have
to buy milk again?” Edward complained out on the street as he checked the list on his hand. “Who
even drinks that shit?”
“Ed, you
know many foods have milk in them and you don’t seem to care much! The milk is
for the stew Granny promised to make tonight!” Winry answered, huffing in annoyance. The woman eavesdropping
the youngsters snorted a bit. At least Winry knew how to call that boy out.
“Oh. In
that case, I guess we have to buy it. By the way, does your apple pie have milk
in it?” Ed wanted to know then.
“You bet it
does.” Even from afar, Winry seemed strangely satisfied that Ed had finally
discovered the truth about his favorite dessert.
“I guess… your
hands are so skilled that you can make even milk taste good,” Ed blurted before
he could stop himself. Compliments had never been his area of expertise, and
now his cheeks were burning of embarrassment.
“Do you …really think that I’m skilled at baking?” Winry asked happily, weirdly pleased by Ed’s comment.
It was too
late to deny it now, Ed seemed to decide. “Y-yeah! And at many other things too!”
“Awww.
Thanks,” Winry smiled softly and pulled Ed closer. There, in the middle of the
street, she kissed him fully on the mouth. They seemed to enjoy it, continuing for quite a while. Ed’s hand slipped to Winry’s ass.
“Do they
have to do that right there?” the elderly woman complained and was about to leave
the room when she saw Ed and Winry pulling away to breathe. She could hear Ed ask:
“Why did
you do that here?”
“If I
recall correctly, you weren’t that shy when you came back from your trip the
last time and tried to get me into the public bathroom right away?”
“Oh, shut
up…”
“No, I won’t.
But you know what? If you play your cards well and drink your milk nicely, I might
reward you when we are alone,” Winry promised and gave Ed that sneaky grin that
made his knees a little bit weak.
“I’m listening,”
Ed said with a husky voice and gave her his most innocent look.
The man inside
the house looked at his wife and noted: “they were just like we were at that
age.”
“You might
be right, my dear,” the woman admitted. Hopefully the young couple would be as happy as they were.
Edward gets a little panicked when he finds out Winry is pregnant with their first kid. He goes a bit overboard trying to help her out in the early days/long before she even needs it, which she finds hilarious and occasionally takes good-natured advantage of.
That’s a nice question! I don’t really think they have godparents in Amestris as that is a Christian thing and Ed says it loud and clear he’s an atheist (even tho he beats the god of fma xD). But if they were to have them, the first kid’s (whom I’ve named Alan) godfather would naturally be Al, and as for godmother… um, I’d say Mei otherwise but she and Al probably aren’t officially together yet at that point (if I am to believe Arakawa’s timeline, Ed and Winry have their first kid when they are 19-20). But I’d kinda like to think they’d ask Izumi! Since she can’t have kids of her own, it would make her super happy that they give her such honor.
As for the girl (whom I’ve named Emma), there are several strong contenders (again Mei, Paninya, etc) but maaaaaybe Roy and Riza are going for the win. Ed is a bit reluctant when it comes to Roy at first but Winry tells him they can’t ask Riza if they don’t ask Roy as well so… he has to accept it (and secretly he thinks Roy deserves it).
