914 words later, here we go. This drabble takes place probs quite soon after the boys return to Resembool after the Promised day. I would say Winry is pretty good at convincing Ed… 😉 Also thank you, this is a wonderful headcanon ♥
“Uh, Al?
Which do you think would look nice on Winry?” Ed showed his brother two hoodies
he had just picked from the shelf at a clothes shop. It was a miracle he had
managed to drag Al to shop with him, because he was very aware of Ed’s…
different taste in clothes. Al was reminded of that again when he saw what Ed
had picked.
“No
offense, brother, but those look like something you would wear, not what Winry would,” Al answered as he took a
closer look at the items Ed was holding. One was a red hoodie with black
stripes and big pockets on it, the other one was dark blue, made of slightly
thinner material than the red one, with a golden dragon decorating the front.
“Duh, I’m
buying these for me.”
That didn’t
make sense in Al’s opinion. Why had he asked about Winry then? “But you just
asked… Ugh, I don’t understand you, brother.”
“Whatever.
I’ll take the blue one. I think it will compliment her ey… I mean, the dragon
is cool.” Ed tried to cover.
Al couldn’t help but snort when he finally
realized what was going on. Ed didn’t notice, he paid for the hoodie and looked
very pleased at himself as he walked out of the store.
“What did
you buy today?” Winry asked curiously when Ed got back to the familiar yellow
house. Al had decided to take a nap after the shopping trip and Pinako was
outside, so it was just the two of them in the room.
“Just
something cool for me with the money I earned when I was a military dog,” Ed
answered, emphasizing the words ‘me’ and ‘I’ just so Winry wouldn’t even accidentally
think that he would buy something for her.
Winry
sighed. That boy – or was he a man already? – was impossible. “Alright then. I
heard you loud and clear. No need to be a jerk about it.”
“Hey, who
are you calling a…?! You know what, never mind,” Ed stopped suddenly. Winry
looked at him with surprise. It wasn’t like Ed to stop an argument before it
had even properly started. She didn’t know that he just wanted to show her the
hoodie already, not willing to get into a fight when he could instead see Winry
in that badass, blue piece of clothing.
“Did you
bite your tongue?” she asked, amused, as he was just standing there awkwardly,
lost in his thoughts. Finally, he snapped out of his trance and remembered that
he still hadn’t managed to show his purchase. He pulled it out of the bag and
put it on himself.
“Here,” he
grunted and turned so Winry could see the hoodie better. He didn’t understand
why he felt his cheeks starting to get uncomfortably warm under Winry’s curious
stare.
“So, this
is what you were so proud of?” Winry smiled mischievously. She wouldn’t admit
it out loud, but the fabric looked soft and comfortable, just great for cooler
weather, and she was weirdly pleased with the blue color as well, as it was
such an untypical choice for Ed.
“You know
what,” she continued, “I’m quite surprised you picked a blue one. You don’t
wear that color all that often…”
“Oh, I know what you are trying, and guess what, it’s not working.”
Ed poked
Winry on her nose to emphasize he meant what he said. Winry expected the poke to
be a bit harsh, but it ended up being gentle, almost… flirty?
“Then what
am I trying?” Winry inched closer to Ed, their noses nearly touching, her voice
almost seductive in Ed’s opinion.
“To steal
this hoodie. I know what happened to the white one,” Ed said matter-of-factly,
much more quietly than he had been talking a moment ago.
“You gave
it to me, and I’m not trying to steal anything.”
“Yes, you
are.”
“No, I’m
not.”
“I’ll make
you admit it.”
“Oh. How
are you planning on doing it?” Winry raised her eyebrow curiously.
“Here’s
how.” Before Winry knew it, she could feel Ed’s lips on hers, although just
very briefly. It was more of a peck than a real kiss, and Winry didn’t even
have time to respond to it. Ed moved farther from her and cocked his eyebrow.
“Well? Are
you gonna admit it?”
“I think I
need to be bribed a bit more.” Winry said calmly, although her cheeks were as
red as Ed’s favorite coat.
“F-fine,”
Ed stuttered, suddenly terrified of his boldness the moment before (It was
Winry, for fuck’s sake, he thought. What if he ruined their friendship?).
Still, he closed the distance between them again, set one of his hands on the
back of her neck and the other in her hair and pulled her for another kiss. He
didn’t really know what to do next, so Winry decided it was her turn to take
the lead and pressed her lips more firmly against his, urging Ed to move his as
well.
When they
finally pulled apart, she said, slightly out of breath: “I will admit I would
like to try that hoodie on… if you admit you actually bought it for me.”
“I just
said…!”
Both of
them forgot what they were even arguing about when Winry initiated the third
kiss.
Later that
evening, when they were sitting on the porch admiring the night sky, Ed
admitted (though only in his mind) that the hoodie looked very good on Winry.
