I bet there have been so many times where Winry has fallen asleep at her workbench because she’s pulled over three all-nighters. She’s tired and motor oil stains her cheeks and any exposed skin there is. Her ponytail is now loose underneath her bandana and this is how Ed sees her when he comes to check up on her. She’s always gorgeous in his eyes but it’s moments like these where he simply watches him with the softest smile that’s reserved only for her. There’s this little snort that she does when he picks her up and her nose scrunches up before she nestles her head against Ed’s chest, open and trusting. He holds her so close and tightly within his arms and doesn’t let her go until he absolutely has to. Even then, Winry holds on and Ed finds himself never letting go.
Avainsana: headcanons
let’s talk about ed and winry’s wedding first o f all do they even really have one or is it a huge event. where is it held who cries at it
*heavy breathing* E D W I N W E D D I N G those kooky kids getting married is what keeps me yOUNG AND THRIVING
OKOK SO YEAH they try to keep it a small quiet sort of thing but that doesn’t really happen when Ed and Winry are involved and they know so many people and have made so many friends that it ends up turning into a huge event. Winry’s Rush Valley friends are there, the military squad is there, basically all of Resembool shows up, even Ling and it’s a huge national incident because he’s probably emperor by this point ashlfksafklsa he probably tried to give them an elephant for a wedding gift or some shit that boy is wild
they hold it outside the rockbell’s house, in that big hilly field they have, in the spring or summer!! It’s a gorgeous day!!! And they get married as the sun is setting and ed is glad it’s harder to see his MAJOR BLUSH that way
Ed cries a lot, especially when he sees Winry coming down the aisle because he can’t believe hOW BEAUTIFUL AND INCREDIBLE SHE IS AND THIS AMAZING WOMAN LOVES HIM AND HOW DID EVERYTHING TURN OUT SO WELL
Armstrong cries even more tho. Hughes is probably crying in the afterlife with Trisha and Hoho. Mei is also teary-eyed because she’s such a hopeless romantic and the whole evening is so magical and winry looks so pretty. All the while Al, the best man, is just standing there with a knowing, self-satisfied smile because he called this when he was like ten
there’s lots of food, all homemade, ling eats like all of it
elysia is the flower girl and lots of pictures are taken in hughes’s memory ahfalsjflkas
the elric-rockbells house a lot of the guests overnight since a lot came in from out of town and resembool probably has like one inn. So the party really never ends until hella late in the night (morning). Team Mustang gets drunk af and thats when roy cries because he too is
secretlya hopeless romantic as wellplus hawkeye caught the bouquet
it was no accident, ya’ll know winry is hella good a throwing things with precision
also al was the one to transmute their wedding rings, he designed them specially for ed and winry omg what if he engraved like equivalent exchange or 85% into them or something by e
aND ALL IN ALL IT’S AN AMAZING DAY and after the festivities finally die down ed and winry are finally allowed to sneak off to bed, they’re so exhausted so they just cuddle and giggle and blush before falling asleep because they’re so in love and so married and they couldn’t be happier
anyway the next morning they’re still on their happy lovey-dovey high when they come downstairs to find the house totally trashed and half the party guests just lying on the floor and probably al and mei and pinako trying to salvage some breakfast out of the mess and stepping over people as they cook in the kitchen

your headcanons are so good!! Have any others for Ed? :)
uh hell fucking yeah i do
- he stays pretty strong throughout his life, so there are like 50 photos of him holding his kids at various points in their lives. On his shoulders, under his arms – he doesn’t care if his son is like 16, he’s getting picked the fuck UP for his birthday photo
- Ed sends very fascinating letters while travelling in the East. He finally decides to start writing more often (making up for all the years he was AWOL, probably,) and he includes tidbits of information and places he’d like to revisit.
- On that note, there’s a candid photo of him laughing that he sends to Winry in a stack of assorted pictures, and she carries it around in her coverall pocket. Ed forgets about it, but he finds it about a year after he gets back and pretends he’s not touched.
- (She really likes having photos of him smiling.)
- Ed is perpetually warm. A good quality, since both Winry and Alphonse get cold easily. He warms their hands between his own on cold days.
- He’s touch-starved as hell, and after the Promised Day he realizes he fucking LOVES being hugged and giving hugs.
edwin headcanons?
@icameheretowinry is much better with headcanons. but anyway.
Ed will rub her feet for Winry if she’s tired, but will talk smack the entire time about her huge feet.
Winry sees Ed shirtless. She’ll think ‘ooh, hot’ for five seconds and then snap back to reality. Ed sees Winry shirtless. He turns bright red and starts stammering.
It takes them a year into their marriage to be able to make sexual jokes/advances without being nervous.
Ed likes going to their kids parent teacher conferences since he loves being a called a ‘responsible dad’. This means Winry has to keep him from getting to jittery before the meeting.
Their parenting styles are very different, but they still respect the other’s tactics. Ed will let their kids fight for a little while but will step in if it starts getting to heated. Winry is more ‘I don’t care who started it, I’ll finish it’. Both will make them apologize after no matter what.
Hmmm. EdWin, Pearlshipping? :D
OK my answers became so long that I’m gonna save people’s eyes and post pearlshipping separately. EdWin here! (I think you can see from my answers that I was a tiny bit excited to answer this)
This post is 1800+ words long so do whatever you want with that knowledge (I put a lot of thought into my answers and spend like 3-4 hours on this so I’d be happy to know that someone read it)
- Who gets excited about Halloween in July:
(We know Ed and Winry do not live in a world with such holidays but
let’s pretend they do in these answers!) Hmm. I drew a conclusion that Ed is
probably someone who doesn’t really appreciate the holidays, no matter what they
are (particularly Christmas and Valentine’s day are totally overhyped in his
opinion) so he would /not/ jump of joy from the thought that they would be
celebrating Halloween several months early. Also, having to see all those
people he dislikessecretly likeseven more? No thanks. But since he can’t get
out of that situation, he will try to make the best of it and dress up as Roy
to annoy him. Winry is a bit more excited, but since she’s a practical person, she’d worry about baking all the goodies and finding an amazing costume etc. so she
might find it a bit stressful. (@fairy-amy said she thinks Ed might enjoy the holidays
once he has kids and I have to agree with that, he’s happy when his family is
happy :’) So he’d certainly be ready to organize Halloween in July if his kids
so insisted. The poor boy didn’t get to experience these holidays as a kid, his children have to have it better.)
If there’s a headcanon I’m not fond of, it’s the one about Winry always waiting for Ed (and Al) to return, even after the end of the manga. For me, it looks more like she’s used to not having them around and, while yes, she’s happy when they come back, she likes being on her own, independent and free to go to Rush Valley, Central, Resembol or other locations according to her own schedule.
I doubt she stays in Resembol a lot, having most of her clients in Rush Valley and being used to the agitation of the town. She’d miss her colleagues, the discussions about automails and the inspiration and motivation everyone gains from each other! (And I want her to keep in touch with the Briggs mechanics. I wanted a picture of them together at the end of the manga.)I headcanon that the Rockbells
(because yes, living there, there’s no chance for anyone to call Ed anything other than “Mr. Rockbell”)end up in Rush Valley and that Ed’s the stay at home dad — who keeps studying alchemy and eventually goes on a short trip from time to time. He probably happens to give a hand at Winry’s shop too, or work with Paninya to repair things in town. Heck yeah, I could see them working on the rooftops together and bickering with each other. But yeah, mostly, he’s a dad with too much books.
Maybe they move to a big city a few years later. Winry opens a bigger business — maybe an automail clinic with people working with/for her? — while Ed becomes an university lecturer in theorical alchemy. Or ethics in alchemy. People happen to lack that.
100% approved! I pains me to read fics in a manga/brotherhood timeline where Ed’s gone like five years at a time and Winry waits and waits. Or they’re married and have children and he’s gone months to a year at a time. I think he’d still love to travel, but would limit it because if anything he learned from Van Hohenheim is that he doesn’t want to be absent from his own kids like Hoho was to him and Al.
I also think they settle (for a while at least) in Rush Valley because that’s where Winry would get all her work until Granny retired.
It would be difficult, at first with Ed not having anything to do and Winry busy – some arguments would ensue, but Ed would find his talents in writing about his and Al’s research and traveling in spurts to learn more about other types of alchemy so he could write about it and publish and even teach.
Forget about calling him “Mr. Elric” in the presence of Winry while they’re in Rush Valley. He’s called Mr. Rockbell and he couldn’t care less because he’s super proud of Winry’s success (and he quit trying to correct people after the first 100 times.)
loves it!
How do you feel about the headcannon that eventually Winry takes on a few apprentices and kind of takes them under her wing to teach them to help people or opens something like a engineering school so students can learn how to build automail?
A++
And she lets her students tinker endlessly with Ed’s leg because “What? Not like I’m going to let them practice on my actual customers’ legs! Do you know how much of a risk that would be to the Rockbell reputation?!”
Meanwhile her students go home in an absolute daze. Like one 16 year old girl with an interest in automail engineering walks in the door and her mom looks over from the couch just “Hey Lily, how was your session with your teacher?”
And Lily pauses. And nods. Pauses again. “Good. She let me practice securing the shin plate on her husband’s leg.”
Mom, reading the tension, gets worried. “…And, how’d that go?”
“Oh. Wonderful. Good. I did it. His name is Edward.”
Mom thinks about this, lets out a little laugh. “Hang on, isn’t your teacher Mrs. Elric?”
“Yes.”
“So his name’s Edward Elric! What a funny coincidence. I wonder if he ever gets mistaken for the Fullmetal Alchemist. Not a very common name so I’m guessing.”
“Oh. No. No mistake. It’s Edward Elric. Ms. Winry is married to Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist. That’s his leg. That gave him his name. It’s metal. I screwed a shin plate onto the leg of the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric while he and Ms. Winry talked about making garlic bread.” Lily looks down at her hands, which are shaking now. “Mom I met the Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric and I could hAVE DESTROYED HIS LEG OH MY GOD OH PLEASE TELL ME I DID IT RIGHT.”
(In response to this, Winry still uses Ed as her teaching dummy, but just tries her damnedest to not name drop around the students. Ed hates it, because seeing the dawning realization on the faces of “I learned about you in history class you literally saved my life when I was a little kid” teens is the most fun thing about his teaching dummy job.)
