friendly reminder that before edward elric turned 17 he:

lost his mom, was forced to grow up quickly to essentially father al, almost lost al, had to look at what they created in the eye (which would then lead to recurring nightmares about his mom and not “making her right”), lost two limbs one after the other & used the last of his strength to save al, underwent automail surgery in 1/3 of the time it would normally take, on TWO limbs simultaneously (“you’ll be coughing up blood,” pinako told him. he didn’t care), cried every night because of it, went on to become a so-called “dog of the military” at the mere age of twelve, burned down their home so they could have no place to return to, endured probably hundreds of fights, many of which he came back from seriously injured, blamed himself for the fates of nina & maes hughes, almost died by scar’s hand / in lab 5 / in baschool, got impaled through the stomach & used his life force to seal the wound, was essentially forced to use the philosopher’s stone (even in a situation where he would die if he didn’t use it, he was still so hesitant), was blackmailed by the homunculi, lost al a second time, etc etc (i’m probably forgetting a lot tbh)

but despite all of this he still remained so strong & courageous & brave & selfless :))) & never let his moral compass stray. wow. i’m in love with my boy
