14. Which character death affected you the most and why?

Nina, most certainly. Brrr, it’s just so disturbing :S

(Pls don’t hate me, but while I was sad about Hughes’ death, it didn’t really affect me that much until Ed, Al and Winry came back and found out about it. Of course the funeral scene was pretty ;__; as well)

My headcanon: During the 2 years after Promised Day, Winry splits her time between Resembool and Rush Valley so she can complete her apprenticeship. So now Ed’s the one waiting for Winry and often visiting her in Rush Valley. Also Ed starts to learn how to use the phone more.

I like this headcanon so much that I want to contribute to it (I might write about it in the future too, keep your eyes open):

“Granny, is it just me or does brother seem to be getting restless again?” Al asked Pinako one day while they were preparing lunch together.

Since Winry was in Rush Valley to complete her apprenticeship with Garfiel, the younger Elric had decided to do his best to help Pinako with the household chores, something his brother wasn’t a huge fan of. However, Winry had been absent for almost a month now, and even Al had to admit that something seemed to be missing from the house.

“Hmm, I think you’re right,” Pinako agreed. “Although I do have to admit he’s been a lot calmer ever since you guys returned here.”

“Yeah… I’m just worried that he wants to continue traveling but tries to keep it inside him because he doesn’t want to leave me alone…” Al knew that he wasn’t good enough to travel yet, but he didn’t want to be a hindrance if Ed wanted to go.

“Oh don’t worry about him, Alphonse. I’m sure he doesn’t mind staying here. Besides… I think I know what’s bothering him. It’s not about traveling this time. Just watch him.”

As if on cue, the phone started ringing in the livingroom, and Ed, who was the closest to it, jumped up from the sofa and picked up the phone uncharacteristically eagerly. Al cocked his eyebrow at his brother’s antics. What was going on?

“Rockbell residence… Oh, hi Winry!” he could hear Ed greet their friend loudly. “What’s going on?”

He was quiet for a while, listening to Winry’s explanation, then:

“Really? That’s awesome! I… I mean we all are looking forward to seeing you.”

It was quiet for a moment again, and then he said: “Great! We’ll be there! See you soon!”

Al had barely enough time to give Pinako an “oh shit you were right” look before Ed showed up in the kitchen. He had a (suspiciously) wide grin on his face as he asked: “Granny, do you know where Winry keeps the recipe for the apple pie she always bakes for us?”

“Sure, I’ll get it for you. Why do you need it, though?”

She knew perfectly well why, but she wanted to make Ed say it out loud.

“Uh… they always say that alchemy starts in the kitchen… And I want to see if that’s true.”

“Right you do,” Pinako said knowingly. Ed shot a confused look at her, but remained quiet.

“Since when are you a master baker, brother?” Al asked, not being able to hide his amusement at this development a simple phone call had caused.

“How hard can it be, really? It’s about mixing ingredients, just like alchemy.”

“If you say so,” Al laughed and ran out of the room before Ed had time to start throwing insults at him.

Surprisingly enough, the apple pie ended up being just fine. Sure, not as good as Winry’s, Ed thought as he took a bite to test it, but definitely edible. Al had decided that it was safe to show his face in the kitchen again, and he said nonchalantly: “So, Winry’s coming home, isn’t she?”

“W-who said anything about Winry?”

“We heard your phone call, it was kinda obvious, brother. As obvious as why you really baked this pie. Hmm, some might even say it’s as obvious as your feelings for Winry.”

“W-W-WHAT?!”

Somewhere on the train between Rush Valley and Resembool Winry swore she could hear Ed’s yell all the way there.
