68. “PILLOW FIGHT!”

THUNK!

Ed was sitting at his desk, brows furrowed with his nose
buried deeply in a book when his wife
thumped him across the back with a pillow.
It certainly didn’t hurt, but it startled him, and he turned around to
glare at her.

“Winry!  What the hell
was that for?”

The way she was standing hovering over him, hands planted
firmly on her hips and eyes twinkling mischievously was incredibly nostalgic in
a way, and with a jolt he was transported back through his memories to years
earlier.

They couldn’t have
been more than five or six, and he had been battling it out with Winry and his
brother, all of them thunking the other two with pillows wherever they could reach.  The room had been filled with laughter and
gentle thuds of the pillows as they hit their intended targets.

“PILLOW FIGHT”, Ed
bellowed, hip checking Al out of the way so that he could smack Winry with his
pillow.

“YOU’RE GOING DOWN”,
Winry shrieked with laughter.

To her credit, she was a fierce competitor, and within a few moments she had both Al
and Ed sitting on the ground, holding their pillows in surrender.

“Okay, okay!  You win Winry!”  Al had stared up at her, breathless with laughter.

“That’s right!”  Dropping her pillow, she had planted her
hands on her hips and stared down at them, eyes twinkling, “I win, and you two
loose!  This means I’m the best!  And you two have to do whatever I say for a
whole week!”

“Hey wait a minute.  We didn’t agree to that!”

“Edward!”  Winry’s
voice snapped Ed back to the present.

“I said maybe you
should have married your books with the amount of time you’ve been spending
with them.”

Ed’s jaw dropped, genuinely offended.  They were both incredibly supportive of each
other’s careers and endeavors, but lately they had been spending less and less
time together.  Maybe she had a point.

Still, he had to get in a rebuttal.

“Hey!  As if you don’t
spend all your time tinkering away with your automail-”

THUNK!

She whacked him again, this time on the chest, and Ed
narrowed his eyes, though he was more amused than anything else.

“Alright, that’s it.”

Winry raced out of the room and down the stairs, and Ed
followed her, picking up one of the smaller sofa cushions as she ran into the
living room.

As soon as she got close enough to smack him again, he
decided to ditch the pillow altogether, and picked her up, delighted that he
got to hear her laugh that he loved so much.

Winry dropped her pillow and wrapped her arms around Ed’s
neck, and they fell onto the sofa together.

“I love you, Win.”

“I love you too, Ed.”

“And next time you want a pillow fight … you’re going down.”
